ATS 2010: developments in IPF and cystic fibrosis
The FDA's recent refusal of Esbriet and the publication of new guidelines for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis drove considerable interest in this disease at the 2010 meeting of the American Thoracic Society. getting a boost from open source systems. Most e-clinical systems
today--from data capture and storage to trial management and
operations--are proprietary, despite the excellent work that solutions
providers have done to make their products compatible with existing

public-domain data providers European Bioinformatics Institute
(EMBL-EBI), the U.S. National

Collaborative Drug Discovery (CDD) to make freely available key
scientific information on more than 13,500 compounds that could
ultimately lead to new treatments for malaria.

NicOx: FDA panel's negative opinion casts future of osteoarthritis drug into doubt
The FDA advisory committee has issued a negative recommendation for NicOx's naproxcinod. An FDA advisory meeting has voted 16 to one against recommending the potential osteoarthritis drug naproxcinod. The decision comes after the panel found insufficient safety data to support the drug's target indication. While naproxcinod's commercial potential is now uncertain, Datamonitor believes that the announcement further highlights the FDA's enhanced scrutiny of safety in the post-Vioxx era.
